Glaucocharis grandispinata sp. n.

( Figs. 5 View FIGURES 2 – 10 , 14 View FIGURES 11 – 16 )

Type material. Holotype 3, Xiaoheishan, Longling (24°35ʹN, 98°41ʹE), Yunnan Province, 2300 m, 10.viii.2005, leg. Yingdang Ren, genitalia slide No. LWC07144. Paratypes: 1 3, same data as holotype; 2 3, Wenquan (24°59ʹN, 102°27ʹE), Kunming, Yunnan Province, 1900 m, 30.viii.2005, leg. Yingdang Ren ( NKUM).

Diagnosis. This species is similar to G. setacea Song & Chen, 2003 , but can be distinguished by the valva nearly straight ventrally and the phallus with a large spinelike cornutus; in G. setacea , the ventral margin of valva is angled conspicuously at three fifths, and the phallus has several long and many tiny spines. This species aslo resembles G. paulispinata sp. n., and the differences are stated under G. paulispinata sp. n.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 2 – 10 ). Forewing length 5.5–6.0 mm. Frons and vertex pale brown mixed with white. Labial palpus yellowish white mixed with pale brown on outer side, yellowish white on inner side. Maxillary palpus yellowish white, tip mixed with pale brown. Antenna with dorsal surface yellowish white, ventral surface pale yellow ciliated white. Patagium pale yellow. Tegula pale brown mixed with pale yellow, posteriorly with long white scales. Thorax white. Forewing covered with blackish brown scales, dense in basal area, sparse in medial and distal areas except costa with dense orange yellow scales; antemedian line white, angled outwards near costa, then obliquely widened inward and parallell with termen; reniform stigma blackish brown, 8-shaped, inconspicuous; postmedian line white, inconspicuous, lined with pale yellow stripe at costa; apex orange yellow, wth ovate white apical mark; termen pale brown mixed with orange yellow, with three black marginal spots; fringe pale brown. Hindwing and fringe white. Abdomen blackish brown and white alternately except first and second segments white, genital segment white with pale yellow tip.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 11 – 16 ). Uncus slender, narrowed to pointed apex; ventral surface with two thumb-shaped protuberances at base, each bearing a long apical seta. Gnathos slightly shorter than uncus, distal one sixth armed with sclerotized pleats, with dense dentations dorsally, angled dorsoapically. Valva long and narrow, broad basally, narrowed to rounded apex. Costa well-sclerotized, not reaching end of valva, produced to a long and thin prong directing upward. Juxta rounded. Phallus short and thick, curved slightly, about three fifths length of valva; cornutus a long spine, placed in distal half.

Female unknown.

Distribution. China (Yunnan).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin prefix grand - = big, and the Latin spinatus = spinous, in reference to the long spinelike cornutus in the male genitalia.
