Craspedorrhynchus chicquerae Ansari, 1955

Craspedorrhynchus chiquerae [sic] Ansari, 1955e: 48.

Craspedorrhynchus chicquerae Ansari, 1956a: 398 . Emendation.

Craspedorrhynchus chiquerae [sic] Ansari, 1958c: 97, figs 211–212. Junior primary homonym.

Current status: Craspedorrhynchus chicquerae Ansari, 1955e . S pecies inquirenda.

Type host: Fulco [sic] chiquera chiquera [sic] Daudin = Falco chicquera chicquera Daudin .

Type locality: None given.

Type material: Not found in any collection we have surveyed, and is presumed lost.

Remarks: The louse illustrated by Ansari (1958c: fig. 211) does not belong to Craspedorrhynchus . Ansari’s illustration of the holotype shows a different head shape from that of Craspedorrhynchus , which is an equilateral triangle; also, the dorsal anterior plate, defined as “squarish” by Ansari, is longer than wide and pointed posteriorly in Craspedorrhynchus . Furthermore, the slender abdomen of Ansari’s illustration contrasts with an almost circular abdomen in Craspedorrhynchus ; the ventral side of the abdomen shows no central setae, while Craspedorrhynchus has central rows, and the tergal plates, stated to be entire by Ansari, are widely separated by a median gap in Craspedorrhynchus . In both descriptions, Ansari (1955e, 1958c) listed only a single specimen, the holotype male. However, his illustrations (1958c: fig. 211–212) are clearly those of a female. Whichever the sex of the holotype, it has not been found and is presumed lost. Ansari’s (1958c: fig. 211) illustration may belong to a species of Penenirmus , but without examining the specimen, we cannot confirm its true identity, and consider C. chicquerae to be a species inquirenda.
