TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, Minas Gerais, Lagoa Santa .

DISTRIBUTION: Brazil; Bolivia, east of the Andes.

COMMENT: Includes wellsi; see Corbet and Hill, 1980:190; also see Cabrera, 1961:575, who fixed the type locality. Huckinghaus, 1961, Z. Wiss. Zool., 166:71, considered wellsi a distinct species.
