TYPE LOCALITY: South Africa, Cape of Good Hope .

DISTRIBUTION: Senegal to Sudan to South Africa to Angola.

COMMENT: Includes ansorgei, johnstoni, orobinus, soleatus, surdus, and woosnami; see Misonne, 1974, Part 6:36. Genest-Villard, 1978, Mammalia, 42:404-405, included angolensis in murinus (see comment under platyops ) and transferred brockmani and personatus from this species to parvus .
