Description

Body sub-cylindrical. Head fulvous, vertex brownish to black, frons and first antennomere fulvous, second to eleventh antennomeres, labrum and tips of mandibles blackish brown. Pronotum light orange. Scutellum black. Elytra fulvous, lateral margins, posterior two-thirds of suture and elytral apices black; each elytron with five black spots: one spot at humerus, second near scutellum, third situated at one-third of elytra near suture, fourth situated at two-fifths, last one situated at anterior two-thirds. Underside of prothorax light orange, whereas that of mesothorax and metathorax more or less brownish, abdomen fulvous, sometimes brown, tarsi and posterior half of tibiae blackish brown.

Head small, vertex convex, impunctate. Eyes moderate. Frons broad, 1.4 times as wide as the diameter of the eye (about half of maximal width of the head) in both sexes, surface covered with three impressions placed triangularly: a small impression situated in the middle, and two shallower impressions at anterior part; with sparse pubescence near inner margins; anterior margin of clypeus feebly incised. Labrum sparsely covered with pubescence, feebly incised at anterior margin; mandibles short; length ratio of maxillary palpomeres 0.15: 0.6: 0.45: 0.9; length ratio of labial palpomeres 0.15: 0.6: 0.85; mentum deeply emarginated. Antennae extending to base of elytra; all segments except third pubescent, first antennomere elongate, second oblong, third very small, nearly cylindrical, fourth triangular, last segment subovate, other segments feebly serrate; length ratio of antennomeres 1.3: 1.0: 0.6: 0.8: 1.2: 1.2: 1.3: 1.4: 1.5: 1.2: 1.8.

Pronotum transverse, twice as wide as long, widest at two-thirds; convex; lateral margins broadly bordered, other margins narrowly bordered; anterior angles obtuseangulated, posterior ones rounded; anterior margin nearly straight, lateral margins rounded, posterior margin straightly lobed medially; surface impunctate and lustrous, each side with three depressions: one shallow, situated near posterior angles; the others deep, placed at postmedian of pronotum. Scutellum narrowly trigonal, impunctate, apical part slightly elevated.

Elytra 1.4 times as long as wide, nearly parallel-sided, feebly lobed below shoulders; surface lustrous, covered with sparse but deep punctures, interstices two to four times the diameter of a puncture at base, punctures reducing posteriorly, indistinct in posterior one-third, even disappearing in elytral apices. Epipleura about one-third of elytral length. Pygidium partly free, apex feebly incised.

Underside of body and legs covered with short silvery pubescence; legs slender, length ratio of protarsomeres 1.3: 0.9: 0.2: 1.8.

Aedeagus light brown, with a narrow and long apex, apex slightly bent ventrally, underside of aedeagus rather simple, lateral margins with sparse pubescence, median part feebly depressed, and outer margins of the depressed area forming ridges.

Female. Body more robust; pygidium exposed; spermatheca narrow and long, spermathecal duct very long, moderately thick, closely and helically coiled dozens of times, base thicker; ventral rectal sclerites moderate, with long corners forwards, dorsal central sclerite trilobed, lateral sclerites moderate, shell-shaped.

Measurement

Males: 3.8–4.3 mm, females: 4.9–5.2 mm.

Etymology

The new species is dedicated to Mr Shuyong Wang (IZ-CAS), the holotype collector.

Distribution

China (Yunnan).

Remarks

This new species is characterized by the pronotum with six depressions, the apex of scutellum slightly elevated, and each elytron with five spots. Moreover, the narrow and long aedeagal apex as well as the trilobed dorsal rectal sclerite makes it very different from other congeneric species.
