Shrubs or trees 2–7 m tall. Twigs puberulent when young, glabrescent; trichomes brownish. Young leaves puberulent; trichomes brownish. Leaves with petioles 3–9 mm long, canaliculate, puberulent; blades 55–130 × 20–40 mm, oblong or narrow-elliptic, rare elliptic, discolorous when dry, not glaucous and puberulent or glabrous adaxially and puberulent abaxially; bases attenuate or obtuse; apices acuminate; midvein sulcate adaxially and raised abaxially, glabrous adaxially and puberulent or glabrous abaxially; secondary veins 13–18 at each side, slightly raised on both surfaces, the first pair confluent with the marginal vein; marginal veins two, the innermost 0.5–1 mm from the revolute without thickening margin; oil glands inconspicuous adaxially and raised abaxially. Inflorescences axillary or terminal, fascicle, sessile or with peduncle up to 1 mm long, rachis up to 15 mm long, puberulent; bracts 0.5–2 mm long, ovate, puberulent, deciduous after anthesis; 2–6 flowers; pedicels 3–12 mm long, pubescent; bracteoles 1–3.5 mm long, free or connate by ca. 1 mm at the base, ovate, apices obtuse, puberulent, not reflexed, persistent in the fruit; trichomes brownish. Flower buds 2.5–3.5 mm in diameter. Flowers with smooth, puberulent hypanthia; calyx lobes 4, free, 2–2.5 × 2–2.5 mm, ovate, apices obtuse, puberulent; petals 4, obovate, oil glands evident; staminal ring puberulent; stamens with filaments 4–4.5 mm, anthers oblong; style 4–6.5 mm, glabrous, stigma punctiform; ovary 2-locular, ovules 10–18 per locule, locule internally glabrous. Fruits 11–15.5 × 12–18 mm, globose, smooth, puberulent; red when ripe; seeds 1–2 per fruit, ca. 14 × 6–11 mm, ellipsoid, testa smooth.

Distribution and habitat: — Eugenia pisiformis is known from collections from the state of Bahia through São Paulo in the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil. In the RNV, the species is found in the Mata Alta vegetation and near to periodically flooded areas.

Phenology: —Flowering in August through October; fruiting in October through December ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ).

Taxonomic comments: —The species is assigned to Eugenia sect. Umbellatae . Eugenia pisiformis is morphologically similar to E. pruniformis due to its leaf blades shape, size, apices and indumentum, as well as the discolour leaf blades. However, Eugenia pisiformis differs from E. pruniformis by its leaf blades with innermost marginal vein 0.5–1 mm from the margin (vs. 2.5–8 mm from the margin) and inflorescences in fascicles (vs. inflorescences in raceme, which sometimes can be corymbose). The species is easily distinguished from all other species of the genus in RNV by the combination of its brownish indumentum, leaf blades generally oblong or narrow-elliptic, discolorous and with innermost marginal vein 0.5–1 mm from the margin, and inflorescences in fascicles.
