Bathyphasma ovigerum Gilbert, 1896 .

Abyssal Snailfish. To 42 cm (16.5 in) SL, 47.5 cm (18.7 in) TL ( Orr 2012). Haida Gwaii, British Columbia ( Gilbert 1896) to central California (37°38’N, 123°23’W) ( Orr 2012). Depth: at least (2,039 –2,904 m) (6,688 –9,525 ft) ( Orr 2012) or perhaps to 3,602 m (11,815 ft) ( Jacobsen Stout et al. 2016). Some of the depths listed in such papers as Stein et al. (2006) may be in error, the result of confusing this species with other similar-appearing ones ( Orr 2012). Previously recognized as Careproctus ovigerus ( Gilbert, 1896) , we follow Fricke et al. (2020) and have moved this species to the genus Bathyphasma .
