( Figs. 21, 22 View FIGURES 21 – 22 , 25 View FIGURES 25 – 26 , 27–33 View FIGURES 27 – 30 View FIGURES 31 – 33 )

Loxotaenia fasciata View in CoL de Meijere, 1913: 301. Type locality: INDONESIA: Java. Neoloxotaenia fasciata: Sabrosky 1964: 180 View in CoL ; Sabrosky 1977: 314.

Diagnosis. Antenna dark brown with thick grayish microtomentum except for pedicel yellowish brown on ventral surface, postpedicel yellow at basoventral portion; postpedicel 3 times as long as wide. Paratergite and anepisternum with oblique, wide, yellow stripe, these parts and katepisternum with distinct pale gray microtomentum. Scutellum yellow except for base brown.

Description. Body length 3.0– 3.5 mm, wing length 2.4–2.9 mm.

Head dark brown, partly brownish, about 0.8 times as long as high, wider than thorax; face somewhat convex in lateral view, bright brown with a yellow middle stripe more or less on upper 1/2; frons brown, about 1.1 times as long as wide, projecting only slightly in front of eye. Ocellar triangle smooth, bright black, covering most part of frons; ocellar tubercle bright black; gena narrowed, linear, about 1/10 times as high as postpedicel; vibrissal angle obtuse; parafacial dark brown, but appearing silvery from a different angle. Cephalic setulae and setae black, weakly developed except for setulae on parafacial and vibrissal angle pale. orb very minute; oc, pvt and vte hairlike. Antenna long, dark brown with thick grayish microtomentum, but pedicel with yellowish brown ventral surface, postpedicel yellow at basoventral portion; postpedicel 3 times as long as wide, parallel-sided; arista slender, naked and black except for basal segment yellow. Proboscis light brown with brownish setulae; palpus black with blackish setulae.

Thorax black with brownish microtomentum. Scutum convex, the microtomentum partly sparse or absent and appearing as 5 subshining black stripes, three middle ones long and wide, two lateral ones short and narrow. Thoracic pleuron dark brown except for scutum prominently marked on paratergite and anepisternum by oblique, wide, yellow stripe, these parts with distinct pale gray microtomentum. Anepisternum and katepisternum with some pale microscopic setulae. Scutellum yellow except for base brown, and entirely microtomentum; round marginally and convex on disc, about 1.7 times as wide as long; ap sc short, only half of scutellum. Setulae and setae on thorax black, setae weakly developed. Legs long and thin; coxae, trochanters and femora dark brown except for yellow distal end; tibiae and tarsi yellow except for fore tarsomeres 4–5, mid and hind tarsomere 5 dark brown. Setulae on legs yellow except for apical portions of tarsi with some brown setulae. Tibial organ absent. Wing (fig. 25) hyaline, about 2.8 times as long as wide, veins brown. Relative lengths of 2nd: 3rd: 4th costal sections = 5: 3: 1; discal cell narrow and long; R4+5 and M1+2 nearly parallel or slightly convergent; crossveins r-m and m-m not approximate, r-m at basal 0.45 of discal cell. Halter pale yellow on knob, brown on stem.

Abdomen black, medially microtomentose and matt, laterally not microtomentose and shiny; venter yellowish brown. Setulae on abdomen black.

Male genitalia ( Figs. 27–30 View FIGURES 27 – 30 ): Epandrium short tubular, black with long black setulae, widely opened distally and each inner distal margin narrowed and closed to cercus in dorsal view, with 2 narrow band-like sclerites along posterodorsal notch. Surstylus black, pipe-like, basally broad with short spinous setulae, distally narrowed, attaching to epandrium anteroventrally. Cercus small, linear-oblong. Gonites arranged in a row; postgonite slightly incurved distally with blunt apex, basally pointed with sensory setulae, about 10 times as long as wide, basally with 2 long sclerites; pregonite shorter and narrower; distiphallus short cylindrical; basal stalk of phallapodeme prolonged basally, slightly broad in lateral view. Hypandrium narrowed.

Female similar to male. Body length 3.7– 4.2 mm, wing length 3.0– 3.4 mm.

Female genitalia ( Figs. 31–33 View FIGURES 31 – 33 ): Tergum 9 subtriangular, distinctly longer than wide, with 2 long setae; sternum 9 long and semicircular apically with long stout setae at apical portion. Cercus long, but stout in lateral view with setulae at apical portion.

Material examined. CHINA: Hainan: 3 males, 1 female, Wuzhishan, 16–17. V. 2007, Kuiyan Zhang & Junhua Zhang; 2 males, Baisha, 22. V. 2007, Kuiyan Zhang & Junhua Zhang. Yunnan: 3 males, 2 females, Mengla, 8– 11. V. 2009, Guoquan Wang & Tingting Zhang; 1 male, Menglun, 6. V. 2009, Guoquan Wang; 1 male, 1 female, Hekou, 21–22. V. 2009, Tingting Zhang.

Distribution. China (Hainan; Yunnan), Burma, Indonesia (Java).

Remarks. The species is recorded for the first time from China. It is somewhat similar to N. gracililis (de Meijere). But it can be separated from the latter by the scutellum yellow with the brown base. In N. gracililis , the scutellum is entirely black (de Meijere 1913).
