Ophrynopus andrei Konow, 1897a is considered to be a junior subjective synonym of Ophrynopus fulvostigma ( Westwood, 1874) . Vilhelmsen & Smith (2002) and Vilhelmsen et al. (2013) used the coloration of the fore and mid tibiae to separate the two species (reddish brown in O. andrei , dark brown to black in O. fulvostigma ; both species have the hind femur reddish brown, contrary to what is stated in Vilhelmsen & Smith [2002]). Indeed, this seems to be the only significant difference. Vilhelmsen et al. (2017) likewise recently synonymized several Afrotropical species of Orussidae in Chalinus Konow, 1897a , which were also only distinguishable by differences in leg coloration. Furthermore, of three males of O. fulvostigma collected on consecutive days at Panacocha at the Napo River in Ecuador (see Appendix), the two collected on February 28 th had reddish brown femora throughout, whereas the one collected on March 1 st 1993 had dark brown fore and mid femora, indicating that the color differences represents intraspecific variation rather than a diagnostic character at the species level. The dark legged variant seems to be the most common and widespread, e.g., all the O. fulvostigma specimens from French Guiana listed in Appendix 1 and in Vilhelmsen et al. (2013; appendix 1);
