Cyathea zongoensis Lehnert, Amer. Fern J. View in CoL 93(4): 172 (-175; fig. 2). 2003.
Range: — Peru, Bolivia (LP).
Ecology: —Rare in elfin forests and shrubby paramos; 3100 m.
Notes: —Like Cyathea frigida (H.Karst.) Domin in the northern Andes, C. zongoensis often grows as a stunted trunkless plant in open paramo vegation, but can grow thick erect trunks to 3 m tall under more favorable conditions. Both species also have a peculiar rubbery laminar texture and very flexuous petioles and rachis, probably as adaptation to harsh cold winds.
