Range: — Venezuela to Bolivia (CO, LP); Brazil.
Ecology: —Fairly common in lower montane forests and lowland forests, widespread in Amazonia; 220–850m. In a study in Amazonian Ecuador, 317 individuals of this species were counted in 1 ha of primary rainforest, with most individuals being juveniles ( Poulsen & Nielsen 1995) .
Notes: —The similar Cyathea calamitatis Lehnert from Ecuador and Peru may also occur in Bolivia at higher elevations (Lehnert 2016); Gentry & Solomon 44564 (LPB, MO) from 1530 m may belong to this species, which is characterized by oblanceolate pinnules and long contorted paraphyses.
