Range: — Costa Rica and Panama; Colombia to Bolivia (CO).

Ecology: —Rare in understory of montane forests, along woodland streams and in protected gorges; 910 m in Bolivia, 400–1500 m elsewhere .

Notes: —This species combines some rare characters among scaly tree ferns, i.e. green alate petioles and rachises that are hairy on both sides, mucilage covering unexpanded croziers and barely indurated petioles that are bendable like celery or rhubarb.
