Cyathea ruiziana Klotzsch, Linnaea View in CoL 20. 439. 1847.
= Cyathea boliviana R.M.Tryon, Contr. Gray Herb. 206: 61. 1976.
Range: — Peru, Bolivia (CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Fairly common in cloud forests, emergent from low canopy; 2100–2700 m.
Notes:— The differences of the synonym C. boliviana given by Tryon (1976) are found within single populations; the defining dark scales on costae and costules of C. ruiziana that C. boliviana should lack may be present on one frond and lost on the other of the same plant. Cyathea ruiziana is easily recognizeable in the field by the thick scurf on petioles, which gives the trunk apices a pale grayish color that stands out against the rest of the vegetation.
