= Cyathea caracasana (Klotzsch) Domin var. boliviensis (Rosenst.) R.M.Tryon, Contr. Gray Herb. 206: 77. 1976.

Range: —Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia (CO, LP).

Ecology: —Very common in montane rainforests and cloud forests; 1150–2900 m. At 1700–1800 m in LP, this species prefers warm, north-facing slopes ( Jones et al. 2011).

Notes: —A common tall species that characterizes the montane rainforest of the Andes. This species has long been known as C. caracasana , but following taxonomic revision of the species group ( Lehnert 2009a), that species is now considered to be restricted to the Greater Antilles and the coastal mountain ranges of northern Colombia and Venezuela. See Lehnert (2009a) for illustration.
