Sergentomyia View in CoL França & Parrot, 1920: 699 [replacement name for Newsteadia View in CoL França].

Prophlebotomus França & Parrot, 1921: 281. Type species: Hebotomus [sic] minutus Rondani, 1843 by designation of Parrot (1934: 391) [junior synonym of Sergentomyia View in CoL França & Parrot].

Sergentomyia View in CoL includes more than half of the described phlebotomine fauna in the eastern hemisphere, approximately 280 species. As noted by Seccombe et al. (1993), Sergentomyia View in CoL species usually feed on ectothermic vertebrates, but some species (e.g. S. gomboki ) are known to take bloodmeals form mammals, including humans.
