Type-locality. Curuça River , tributary of Javari River, Brazil, and San Fermin, NW Bolivia .

Pertinent taxonomic references. Andersson (1918), Dunn (1935), Ávila-Pires (1995), Miralles et al. (2006, 2009a), Harvey et al. (2008), Miralles & Carranza (2010), Hedges & Conn (2012).

Distribution and habitat. Exila nigropalmata is endemic to southwestern Amazonia, occurring in Brazil, Peru ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ), and Bolivia ( Anderson 1918). In Brazil it is known from the states of Amazonas and Acre, in the upper Javari and Purus rivers. It is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits primary and secondary terra firme and flooded forests, where it is found on the ground, on fallen logs and up to at least 5 m on the vegetation, usually in or close to sunny spots ( Moravec & Aparicio 2004; Miralles et al. 2009a).
