Dictya Meigen, 1803: 277 View in CoL . Type species: Musca umbrarum Linnaeus, 1758 (original designation).

Monochaetophora Hendel, 1900: 355 . Type species: Musca umbrarum Linnaeus, 1758 (monotypy).

Diagnosis. Frons with 1 orbital seta; face with black median spot. Anepisternum and anepimeron each with 1 strong seta. Wing brownish infuscated with distinct pale spots.

Remarks. Although Dictya is the third largest genus of Sciomyzidae , with 44 described species ( Murphy et al. 2018), only 1 of them, Dictya umbrarum ( Linnaeus, 1758) , is known from the Palearctic Region, to which it is restricted. The other 43 species are all Nearctic or Neotropical.

Before our study, Dictya had never been recorded from China. As might be expected from the distribution of the genus in the Palearctic Region, the 5 males and 1 female from Heilongjiang (in the Palearctic Region of China) in our study were determined to be D. umbrarum .

Specimens examined. 5♂ 1♀, CHINA, Heilongjiang, Fujin , 1970. VIII. 14, collectors unknown ( IZCAS) .
