Diagnosis. This species is variable in regard to coloration and markings, and divided into two distinct color forms, the brown and dark gray. A distinct character on forewing is the zigzag blackish brown patch on basal 2/5 of forewing. But it sometimes indistinct. Also, this species is similar to X. vaginata Na & Bae , sp. n. superficially. But it can be distinguished by the following genital characters: the valval harpe reaching the end of ventral margin of valva in the male genitalia, the sterigma is one time weakly convex at middle in the female genitalia.

Distribution. Palearctic— Korea, China (Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu), Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu, Shikoku), Russia (Primorsky); Oriental— China (Hunan, Zhejiang), Japan (Ryukyu Isls.), Taiwan, India (Assam).

Host plant. Celastraceae : Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. , Euonymus alatus (Thunb.) Siebold , E. alatus f. ciliatodentatus (Franchet & Savatier) Hiyama, E. alatus f. striatus (Thunb.) Kitag., E. hamiltonianus spp. sieboldianus (Blume) H. Hara, E. oxyphyllus Miq. , Euonymus sp. ( Friese 1962; Moriuti 1977).
