Ecology. Shelf species (Peña Cantero & Vervoort 1997), found at depths from 7 (Stepanjants 1972) to 412 m ( Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2004), on bottoms of small rocks with red algae ( Briggs 1938), sand and boulders ( Naumov & Stepanjants 1972) and rocks, pebbles, sand and mud ( Stepanjants 1979). Gonothecae: January ( Briggs 1938; Stepanjants 1979), November ( Stepanjants 1979) and December ( Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2004, immature).

Distribution. Circum-Antarctic ( Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2004). East Antarctica : Davis Sea ( Briggs 1938; Stepanjants 1972), off Queen Mary Coast and Enderby Land ( Naumov & Stepanjants 1962), off Adélie Coast ( Naumov & Stepanjants 1972) and north of Wilkes Station, Budd Coast, Wilkes Land ( Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2004). West Antarctica : off McDonald Ice Rumples, east coast of the Weddell Sea ( Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2004).
