Reports in Brazil. Maria da Fé ( Reis et al. 2011b), Minas Gerais ; Pelotas (31°40’54”S, 52°26’11”W), Candiota (31°23’40”S, 53°45’22”W), Bagé (31°08’44”S, 54°11’42”W), Santana do Livramento (30°43’53”S, 55°23’26”W), Rio Grande (31°08’42”S, 54°11’45”W) ( Ricalde et al. 2012), Rio Grande do Sul GoogleMaps .

Relationship to host plant. Vagrant; usually found along the main vein; sometimes on upper surface of leaves ( Keifer 1939). Symptoms observed in Brazil were silvering and distortion of young leaves, without affecting yield ( Ricalde et al. 2012).

Remark. Type species in the genus Oxycenus .

Type host plant status in Brazil. Exotic tree, cultivated mainly in the South and Southeast regions, for the production of olives and olive oil ( Lorenzi et al. 2003; Ricalde et al. 2012). It is also cultivated as an ornamental, mainly as an isolated element in gardens ( Lorenzi et al. 2003).

Relationship to host plant. Vagrants on lower surface of leaves, causing no apparent symptoms. Colonies were observed under a dense layer of loose trichomes along midrib ( Navia & Flechtmann 2005b).

Remark. Only known from the type host/locality.

Type host plant status in Brazil. Native palm trees, not endemic, occurring in Amazônia biome ( Flora do Brasil 2020) .

Additional host plant and localities in Brazil. On the same type host plant B. setosa (Arecaceae) : Cananéia (24°53’45”S, 47°50’17”W) ( Navia & Flechtmann 2002), São Paulo; on Astrocaryum aculeatissimum (Schott) Burret (Arecaceae) : Pariquera-Açu (24°36’41”S, 47°49’32”W) and Cananéia (24°53’45”S, 47°50’17”W) ( Navia & Flechtmann 2002), São Paulo, and “Reserva Estadual de Paraiso”, Paraiso (22°29’23”S, 42°54’47”W) ( Navia & Flechtmann 2002), Rio de Janeiro.

Relationship to host plants. Vagrant on buds of B. setosa and buds and leaves of A. aculeatissimum , causing no apparent symptoms ( Navia & Flechtmann 2002).

Remark. Type species in the genus Palmiphytoptus .

Type host plant status in Brazil. Native palm tree, endemic, occurring in Cerrado , Mata Atlântica and Pampa biomes ( Lorenzi 2020a) .

Additional host plant status. A. aculeatissimum — native palm tree, endemic, occurring in Cerrado and Mata Atlântica biomes ( Flora do Brasil 2020).
