Relationship to host plants. Vagrants on leaves causing small chlorotic, later necrotic, areas (Flechtmann 1994); or on fruits, causing superficial necrosis on the median region ( Ferreira et al. 2001). Symptoms were not reported in the additional host plants.

Remarks. Type species of the genus Amrineus . It was described from male specimens collected from coconut leaves in Jales, São Paulo, Brazil and erroneously mistaken as females (Flechtmann 1994). Additional material was collected from the same host and locality and also in the other areas in Brazil, as described in Flechtmann (1997). Symptoms of A. cocofolius coconut fruit infestation is commonly known as “coconut fruit ringspot” ( Ferreira et al. 2001). These symptoms are remarkably distinct from that caused by A. guerreronis . Necrosis caused by A. cocofolius is more superficial and does not produce cracks or slits, while that caused by A. guerreronis is deeper; A. cocofolius necrosis does not touch the coconut fruit perianth region, being restricted to the median equatorial region forming a ringspot, while that caused by A. guerreronis begins in the region under the perianth (Navia et al. 2005). Amrineus cocofolius damage on coconut fruits is primarily esthetic; apparently infestations did not affect coconut productivity ( Moraes & Flechtmann 2008).

Type host plant status. Naturalized palm tree ( Vianna 2020c), widely cultivated or disseminated in coastal and tropical areas in Northeast, North, Southeast and Mid-West Regions ( Lorenzi et al. 1996; 2006).

Additional host plant status: A. campestris and A. geraensis —native palm, not endemic occurring in the Cerrado biome ( Moraes & Martins 2020; Flora do Brasil 2020); B. archeri —native palm tree, endemic, occurring in Cerrado biome, in the Central-West and Southeast Regions ( Heiden et al. 2020); B. eriospatha —native palm tree, endemic, occurring in Mata Atlântica biome, mainly in the south Region ( Heiden et al. 2020); S. romanzoffiana —native palm tree, not endemic, occurring in Cerrado, Mata Atlântica and Pampa biomes ( Soares 2020).

Type locality. Parque Nacional do Itatiaia , Itatiaia, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil .

Additional localities in Brazil. São Gabriel de Goiás, Goiás ; Monte Verde, Minas Gerais ; Joanópolis, Pedreira, Piracicaba, São Paulo ; Colombo, Paraná ( Flechtmann 2000a).

Relationship to host plant. Vagrants, causing slight rust on leaves/branches ( Flechtmann 2000a).

Remark. Type species of the genus Araucarioptes .

Type host plant status. Native tree, not endemic, occurring in Mata Atlântica and Pampa biomes in South and Southeast regions ( Iganci & Dorneles 2020).
