Material Examined. Seven specimens (all males).

Type Material. Holotype: ‘‘ FRENCH GUIANA / Saül , Mt. Galbao summit, 740 m / 38389180N, 538169420W / 5–7 Jun 1997, J. Ashe, R. Brooks / FG1AB97 154, ex: flight intercept trap ’’ ( SEMC) male . Paratypes (6): same data as holotype except ‘‘153’’ ( SEMC) 2 males ; ‘‘ FRENCH GUIANA / Saül (7 km N) 3 km NW Les Eaux Claires, Mt. La / Fumée, 490 m, 38399460N / 538139190W, 1–8.VI.1997 / J. Ashe & R. Brooks / FG1AB97, #162, ex: f.i.t.’’ ( CMNC) 1 male ; same data except ‘‘#163, ex: human dung trap ’’ ( CMNC) 3 males .

Etymology. The epithet ‘‘galbao,’’ a noun in apposition, refers to Mt. Galbao, the type locality of this species.

Diagnosis. This species is distinguished by the following combination of characters: vertical surface of clypeus not foveate; pronotal hypomeron not carinate; inflexed portion of elytron lacking basal fovea; metathoracic wings fully formed; pygidium with median longitudinal carina; paramere apices rounded medially ( Fig. 34 View Figs ).

Description. Holotype. Male. Total length 3.9 mm; greatest width 2.3 mm. Head. Clypeus not strongly produced anteriorly ( Fig. 32 View Figs ). Clypeal teeth well developed, widely separated, moderately reflexed. Clypeal emargination evenly rounded; vertical surface broadly V-shaped, not foveate. Apical margin of clypeus lateral to teeth slightly convexly arcuate. Disc of clypeus concave, with evenly spaced, very dense, mediumsized punctures. Clypeogenal suture indicated by vague carina. Gena very slightly produced, anterior margin nearly continuous with anterior margin of clypeus. Vertex and gena with evenly spaced, very dense, medium-sized punctures. Pronotum. Convex medially, laterally explanate, shallow depressions laterally in posterior half. Anterior angles approximately right-angled. Sides anterior and posterior to lateral angles nearly straight. Posterior angles obtuse, abruptly rounded, not incised. Pronotum evenly, densely punctate; punctures similar to those of vertex; setae fine, pale, curved. Pronotal hypomeron convex, coarsely punctate, not carinate posteriorly. Elytra. Transversely and longitudinally moderately convex; lateral carinae not strongly elevated. Each elytron dorsally with seven striae, each stria indicated by two wavy lines. Elytral intervals flat; each interval with row of small setose punctures on each side adjacent to striae; setae pale, strongly arched. Inflexed portion of elytron moderately broad, evenly narrowed apically, lacking basal fovea, shallowly punctate in basal half; stria eight absent, nine indicated near middle by a double wavy line, ten vaguely marked by row of punctures adjacent to epipleuron. Epipleuron densely, shallowly punctate in basal half.

Wings. Metathoracic wings well developed. Venter. Prosternum densely punctate; punctures small, shallow. Mesosternum elongate with large, shallow, very dense, annulate punctures. Meso-metasternal suture narrowly rounded medially. Metasternum flat medially with fine scattered punctures anteriorly, large shallow punctures posteriorly; laterally, punctures large, dense, annulate. Legs. Profemur densely punctate ventrally. Protibia ( Fig. 31 View Figs ) very slightly expanded medially in apical half; very weakly notched medially before apex; apex strongly lobed medially. Mesofemur and metafemur with moderately small, elongate punctures ventrally. Metatrochanter unmodified. Metatibia not angulate, not crenulate; lacking subapical lobe. Abdomen. Apical sternite evenly convex, densely, shallowly punctate. Pygidium moderately strongly convex with median longitudinal carina, densely punctate; base with poorly defined, shallow sulcus. Male genitalia. Parameres ( Figs. 33–34 View Figs ) with apices rounded medially, not setose.

Variation. Male: total length 3.2–3.9 mm; greatest width 1.9–2.3 mm. Female unknown.

Bionomics. This species has been collected in flight intercept traps and human dung traps, at elevations of 490 m and 740 m, during the month of June.

Geographic Distribution ( Fig. 35). This species occurs in the region of Saül in central French Guiana.
