Etymology. The epithet ‘‘foveatus’’ (Latin) refers to the large fovea on the vertical surface of the clypeus of this species.

Diagnosis. This species is distinguished by the following combination of characters: vertical surface of clypeus broadly foveate; pronotal hypomeron not carinate; inflexed portion of elytron lacking basal fovea; metathoracic wings greatly reduced; pygidium lacking distinct longitudinal swelling; parameres ( Fig. 138) truncate apically, lacking fringe of setae.

Description. Holotype. Male. Total length 4.3 mm; greatest width 2.9 mm. Head. Clypeus not strongly produced anteriorly ( Fig. 136). Clypeal teeth moderately developed, widely separated, moderately reflexed. Clypeal emargination evenly rounded; vertical surface V-shaped, broadly foveate. Apical margin of clypeus lateral to teeth slightly convexly arcuate. Disc of clypeus concave, coarsely punctate, punctures separated by less than one diameter. Clypeogenal suture not evident. Gena slightly produced, forming angle at junction with anterior margin of clypeus; coarsely, densely punctate. Vertex with medium-sized, very dense punctures. Pronotum. Convex medially, laterally explanate, shallow depressions laterally in posterior half. Anterior angles approximately right-angled. Sides anterior and posterior to lateral angles nearly straight. Posterior angles obtuse, abruptly rounded, not incised. Pronotum with medium-sized, dense punctures and conspicuous, curved, pale setae. Pronotal hypomeron convex, with large, shallow, annulate punctures; not carinate posteriorly.

Elytra. Transversely and longitudinally moderately convex; lateral carinae not elevated. Each elytron dorsally with seven striae, each stria indicated by two wavy lines. Elytral intervals slightly convex laterally and posteriorly; each interval with row of very fine setose punctures on each side adjacent to striae; setae erect, elongate, pale. Inflexed portion of elytron broad, evenly narrowed apically, with scattered fine punctures and transverse wrinkles; lacking basal fovea; striae eight and nine absent, ten complete adjacent to margin of epipleuron. Epipleuron with row of shallow punctures along medial margin. Wings. Metathoracic wings greatly reduced. Venter. Prosternum with shallow, annulate punctures. Mesosternum with small punctures medially; shallow, annulate punctures laterally. Meso-metasternal suture roundly angulate medially. Metasternum slightly convex medially with medium-sized punctures separated by 1–2 diameters; laterally, punctures large, dense, annulate. Legs. Profemur densely punctate ventrally. Protibia ( Fig. 135) with apical half broadened medially, notched medially before apex. Mesofemur and metafemur with scattered fine punctures ventrally. Metatrochanter unmodified. Metatibia slightly angulate, very finely crenulate; lacking subapical lobe. Abdomen. Apical sternite evenly convex, densely punctate. Pygidium moderately convex, swollen at apex but without distinct longitudinal swelling, moderately punctate; base with narrow sulcus. Male genitalia. Parameres ( Figs. 137–138) with apices truncate, not setose.

!

Variation. Male: total length 3.1–4.3 mm; greatest width 1.9–2.9 mm. Female: total length 3.5–4.3 mm; greatest width 2.2–2.5 mm; clypeal teeth more strongly developed; tibiae unmodified.

Bionomics. This species has been collected during February–May in traps baited with human feces at elevations of 2,250–2,650 m.

Geographic Distribution ( Fig. 139). This species occurs in the Cordillera Oriental of Colombia, in the divisions of Cundinamarca and Boyaca´.
