MATERIAL EXAMINED. — Norfolk Ridge. SMIB 8: stn DW 182-184, 23°18’S- 23°19’S, 168°05’E, 320-367 m, 3 dd; stn DW 190, 23°18’S, 168°05’E, 305-310 m, 3 lv, 2 dd (holotype, Fig. 6, and 4 paratypes) GoogleMaps .
DISTRIBUTION. — Antigonia Bank, northern Norfolk Ridge , live and shells in 310-320 m.
DESCRIPTION. — Shell slender oblong, solid, subtranslucent. Protoconch paucispiral, wide, dome-shaped, smooth. Spire short, blunt, whorls flat. Aperture narrow, very oblique, hardly widening anteriorly. Base tapering. Outer lip slightly thickened, slightly oblique, weakly curving inside the aperture posteriorly, narrowing anteriorly. Shoulder sloping, rounded, anterior half of outer edge straight and oblique, outer margin moderately thickened, bevelled, not stepped, inner edge straight, slightly oblique, bearing 14 denticles; denticles, larger and more widely spaced over posterior area of lip, becoming smaller and closely packed on anterior part, except for largest lower denticle bordering siphonal canal. Four thin columellar plaits, lower one angular, very oblique, 3 above less oblique, decreasing in size posteriorly.
Ground colour pale orange, 1 narrow spiral orange band situated at posterior third of last whorl, 2 other bands closely spaced on base, all making well-marked blotches on outer margin.
Dimensions: 3.90 x 2.15 mm.
Radula unknown.
REMARKS. — Serrata minima differs from S. boucheti principally in its blunt spire, its more oval outline, its straighter outer lip, its more oblique first columellar plait and its more closely packed anterior spiral bands.
ETYMOLOGY. — Latin minimus (adj., very small), referring to the tiny size of the shell.
