Notes:—D. Don (1825) described Rhinanthus bifidus based on the specimens of Buchanan-Hamilton collected from Narainhetty, Nepal, but no specific herbarium sheet was designated by him as the holotype nor did he mention the name of the herbarium where the specimens were housed. At present, two specimens of Buchanan-Hamilton from Narainhetty, Nepal are extant, one each at BM ( BM 000885992) and CAL ( CAL 0000018918). Don’s types are known to be held mainly at BM and LINN-HS, therefore the specimen BM000885992, is designated here as the lectotype.
Pedicularis carnosa , a heterotypic synonym of P. bifida , was described by Wallich (1831) based on the specimens collected by him from Sheopur, Nepal. Seven specimens collected by Wallich from Sheopur, Nepal were traced (E00273665, E00273668, K000708942, K001109996, LD1774946, M 0188782 and P02995823). This collection was included by Wallich in his catalogue at number 418A. Of these, the better preserved specimen K001109996, from Wallich herbarium, is designated here as the lectotype.
