Lepidopoda pictipes Hampson, 1919: 54 View in CoL . Holotype ♂( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 − 12 ): N.W. Rhodesia, Solwezi, H. Dollmann leg. (BMNH). Literature: Dalla Torre & Strand, 1925: 5; Gaede 1929: 518; Heppner & Duckworth, 1981: 40; Pühringer & Kallies, 2004: 44.

Remark. Crinipus pictipes and C. marisa seem indistinguishable by external characters and may prove to be conspecific in the future, in which case the latter name would have priority. This was already recognized but never published by Le Cerf, as indicated by a handwritten label attached to a female specimen of C. marisa from Johannesburg in the BMNH: “ Hypanthedon Hps. nec. Lepidopoda Hps. (vide: marisa Dr. ), F. Le Cerf det. 1920”. Unfortunately, the relationship of C. pictipes and C. marisa could not be fully clarified, as only the non-dissected male holotype of C. pictipes is currently known. Considering the great distance (almost 2000 km) between the type localities and major climatic differences (subtropical to tropical in north-west Zambia and more temperate in South Africa), both species are here tentatively assumed to be distinct.
