MICROPSECTRA ANDALUSIACA MARCUZZI View in CoL
Micropsectra andalusiaca Marcuzzi, 1950: 274 View in CoL . Holotype £ (NMW Präparat 375) Spain, Andalusia, Algeciras , 26–30.iv.1925, H. Zerny [examined].
Diagnostic characters
Micropsectra andalusiaca can be separated from other species in the atrofasciata group by the following combination of characters: Adult male with AR c. 0.8; anal point short, triangular, knob between crests absent; superior volsella with large field of microtrichia on stem; digitus short finger-like projection; median volsella with stem reaching well past posterior margin of superior volsella, with spoon-shaped lamellae on distal half.
Description
Adult male (n = 1). Measurements and ratios in Table 1.
Coloration. Body greenish with light brown-yellowish antenna, mesonotum, postnotum and median anepisternum, preepisternum somewhat darker; scutellum and haltere whitish; legs yellowish; abdomen somewhat darker apically.
Head. Antenna with 13 flagellomeres. Frontal tubercles minute (4 µm); temporal setae in one row.
Wing. Subcosta and media bare, brachiolum with 3 setae, squama bare.
Legs. Pulvilli minute or absent. Fore tibia with small scale, 14 µm long spur; mid and hind tibial combs c. 18–22 µm long. Mid ta 1 with 5 sensilla chaetica.
Hypopygium ( Fig. 4A–C View Figure 4 ). Anal tergite with separate, posteriorly directed anal tergite bands; 7 median tergite setae placed on an elevated hump anterior to anal point base; 13 ventral apical setae. Anal point short, slightly triangular, with high, parallel anal crests; knob between crests absent; relatively large microtrichia-free area at base of anal point. Superior volsella roundish with ten dorsal and 5 median setae on setiger, 1 strong seta on stem; a large field of microtrichia dorsally on stem and a small field ventrally on setiger. Digitus small, finger-like, not reaching margin of superior volsella. Median volsella comparatively long and slender, with setiform and spoon-shaped lamellae on distal half; stem reaching well beyond posterior margin of superior volsella. Inferior volsella with small dorsoapical swelling bearing numerous posteriorly and medially directed setae. Inner margin of gonocoxite with 4 strong setae.
Pupa and larva unknown.
Remarks
No specimen other than the holotype was available for examination and description. The type has lost its antennae; the AR value given in Table 1 and the description of the coloration are taken from the original description ( Marcuzzi, 1950). The species resembles both Micropsectra atrofasciata and M. zernyi in having a relatively short anal point and short digitus, but can be separated from M. atrofasciata by a lower AR (0.8 compared to 1.2) and the absence of a knob on the anal point, and from M. zernyi by having more spoon-shaped lamellae on the median volsella and a smaller apical swelling on the inferior volsella.
