Lycorina jacksonfive Rousse & van Noort sp. nov.

( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 )

Diagnosis. Head and mesosoma black and pale yellow, metasoma mostly reddish-orange; face and clypeus finely and rather sparsely punctate on granulate background; ventral margin of clypeus evenly convex, without distinct median concavity; antenna with 32 flagellomeres; mesosoma and metasoma densely punctate to punctategranulate, except ventral half of pronotum rugose, scuto-scutellar groove and speculum area smooth; anterior transverse carina of propodeum entirely lacking. Female unknown.

Differential diagnosis. Differentiated from all other Afrotropical Lycorina species by the fine punctategranulate sculpture of the face and clypeus. The mottled colour pattern partly falls within the range defined for L. globiceps , but this latter species is significantly smaller, has the anterior transverse carina present on propodeum, a distinctly notched clypeus and a distinct sculpture on face. The long antenna is also a diagnostic character for L. jacksonfive , though we lack specimens to assess its variability.

Description. Female. Unknown.

Male (holotype). B 9.2; A 6.6; F 7.5; MD 0.7.

Colour. Head pale yellow with black parts: frons, vertex and gena but their respective orbits, and occiput; mesosoma mostly black with numerous pale yellow markings: notaulus, scutellum but a mid-longitudinal stripe, post-scutellum, propodeum but basal half and a mid-posterior spot, ventral half of pronotum, posterior margin of mesopleuron and ventral half of metapleuron; tergite 1 black except basally and medially pale yellow, tergite 2 reddish-orange except anterior corner black, remainder of metasoma uniformly reddish-orange; fore and mid legs pale yellow, hind leg basally black, reddish-orange from half femur; wings hyaline, slightly infuscate apically, venation yellowish.

Head. Transverse in dorsal view, temple constricted behind eye; temple, vertex and frons sparsely and finely punctate, punctation denser between ocelli; face and clypeus finely and moderately densely punctate-granulate, punctation distinctly sparser medially; ventral margin of clypeus evenly convex, without distinct median concavity; malar distance moderately long; antenna with 32 flagellomeres.

Mesosoma. Pronotum shallowly rugose ventrally, moderately punctate dorsally; mesopleuron and metapleuron densely punctate, except speculum and a large depression below it smooth; epicnemial carina reaching about 2/3 height of mesopleuron; mesoscutum densely punctate-granulate; notaulus indistinct; scuto-scutellar groove quite smooth; scutellum densely punctate; propodeum densely punctate to coarsely punctate-rugose, with anterior transverse carina totally absent, in profile abruptly subdivided by the moderately weak apical transverse carina into horizontal anterior and vertical posterior parts.

Metasoma. Densely and moderately deeply punctate-granulate to punctate-rugose overall.

Etymology. Because this species is the fifth one we describe thanks to the indefatigable collection efforts of Mrs Jackson in Nkoemvon. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely intentional. Noun in apposition.

Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂ Cameroun, Nkoemvon, viii-ix.1980, Mrs D. Jackson ( BMNH).
