2. Acnida cannabina var. concatenata Moquin-Tandon (1849: 278) View in CoL
Type (lectotype, designated here):— U.S.A. Louisiana, New Orleans s.d., Drummond 552 (P00609938 [digital image!], image of the lectotype is available at http://dsiphoto.mnhn.fr/sonnerat/LAPI/scanL/L20080424/P00609938.jpg).
Type (isolectotype, designated here):— U.S.A. Louisiana, New orleans s.d., Drummond 552 (GH2520960 [digital image!], image of the isolectotype available at http://ids.lib.harvard.edu/ids/view/2520960).
= Amaranthus tuberculatus (Moq.) J.D. Sauer (1955: 18) View in CoL ≡ Acnida tuberculata Moquin-Tandon (1849: 277) View in CoL .
Type (lectotype designated by Iamonico 2016a):— SWITZERLAND. Genéve, Hort. Genéve, September 1847, Reuter s.n. (G-221914/1! and G-221914/2!).
Nomenclatural notes:—The variety concatenata was published through a short diagnosis (“ foliis anguste lanceolatis, glomerulis distantibus ”), the provenance (“ In Ludoviciana ”, today Louisiana), and the collector (“ Drummond! n. 552 ”). I found two specimens that are part of the original material, the first one at P (barcode 00609938), and the other specimen at GH (barcode 2520960). Both of these specimens bear the annotation “ New Orleans…Drummond n° 552 ”, where New Orleans is the main city of the Federal State Louisiana ( U.S.A.), which old name is “ Ludoviciana ” as indicate in the protologue, and the number “ 552 ” is also reported Moquin-Tandon (1849: 278). According to the Art. 9.5 the specimens cited are syntypes, and a lectotype has to be choosen among them. I prefer to designate the specimen at P as the lectotype of the name Acnida cannabina var. concatenata since it is a more complete plant (the exsiccatum at GH is a little fragment of plant), while the GH specimen is the isolectotype.
Taxonomical notes:—On the basis of the current concept of Am. tuberculatus (Moq.) J.D. Sauer (= Ac. cannabina L., see e.g. Pratt & Clark 2001) the character given by Moquin-Tandon (1849: 287) as diagnostic for his var. concatenata (shape of the leaf balde) is completely included in the range of morphologic variability of Am. tuberculatus , and the lectotype here choosen matches the current concept of the latter species (see e.g., Bojian & al. 2003, Mosyakin & Robertson 2003, Iamonico 2015). As a consequence, I accept the treatment by Pratt & Clark (l.c.) and synonymized the Moquin-Tandon’s variety.
