Fausta inusta Mesnil, 1957: 57 View in CoL . Holotype male (CNC, examined). Type locality: Obihiro, Japan. References: Zimin (1960: 739, Palearctic Ernestiina ); Herting (1984: 103, Palearctic catalog); Ziegler & Shima (1996: 420, Ussuri tachinids); Richter (2004: 298, Far East Russian tachinids); O’Hara et al. (2009: 141, Chinese catalog).

Panzeria inusta: Shima (2014: 870 , Japanese catalog); Shima & Hara (2016: 28, Saitama tachinids): Zhang et al. (2016: 578, Liaoning tachinids).

Diagnosis. Medium-sized species, abdomen long ovate; one presutural acrostichal seta; abdominal syntergite 1+2 with a pair of fine but distinct median marginal setae; male cerci nearly straight in lateral view, lateral basal ridge rather weak.

Redescription. Male. Body length. 8.7–12 mm.

Head with grayish-white, somewhat silvery, pruinosity on fronto-orbital plate and parafacial, face with pale yellowish white and occiput and genal dilation with grayish pruinosity; antenna black, apical portion of pedicel narrowly reddish; palpus reddish yellow, darkened basally. Frons at narrowest point 0.12–0.13 of head width; face 0.60–0.70 times as long as frons in profile; parafacial bare, wide, about 1.5 times as wide as postpedicel in horizontal position; gena about 1/2 of eye height. Inner vertical seta about 3/4 as long as eye height; outer vertical seta absent; ocellar setae fine, about 2/3 as long as inner vertical seta; 10–12 frontal setae, a row of strong setae outside row of frontal setae near base of antenna; occiput with 1–2 rows of black setulae. Antenna falling short of lower margin of face by about 1/2 length of postpedicel, pedicel about 3/4 as long as postpedicel; arista thickened on basal 1/2–2/5, 2nd aristomere as long as wide. Proboscis short; prementum about 4 times as long as wide; palpus subequal in length to pedicel and postpedicel together.

Thorax black in ground color, with thin whitish-gray pruinosity; 3 broad longitudinal vittae visible on scutum, median vitta disappearing on anterior 1/2 of postsutural scutum, scutellum rarely reddish brown on extreme apex. One presutural and 2 postsutural acrostichal setae; 3 presutural and 3 postsutural dorsocentral setae; 0 presutural and 3 postsutural inter-alar setae; 3–4 supra-alar setae, if 4 setae present then 3rd seta shorter than others; 3 katepisternal setae; anepimeral seta at most reaching level of anterior 1/2 of lower calypter; anatergite bare; scutellum with 4 pairs of long marginal and 2–3 shorter erect discal setae, apical seta absent, sometimes 1 additional seta present on anterior portion of lateral scutellar seta; distance between bases of subapical scutellar setae about 1/2 of that between basal and subapical setae. Wing hyaline, weakly tinged with pale brown on basal and anterior portions, distinctly tinged with brown along r-m crossvein; lower calypter pale yellowish white; relative lengths of 2nd, 3rd and 4th costal sectors approximately as 3:5.5–6:2.5; length of vein M from dm-cu crossvein to bend more than distance between bend and wing margin (2:1.5). Legs black, sometimes reddish brown on posteroventral 1/2 of fore tibia and reddish yellow on median portion of mid and hind tibiae; pulvilli dull yellowish; fore tibia with 2 preapical dorsal setae, a row of anterodorsal and 2 posterodorsal setae; mid tibia with 3–4 anterodorsal, 4–5 posterodorsal and 1 ventral setae; hind tibia with a row of 6–7 anterodorsal, 4 posterodorsal and 4 ventral setae.

Abdomen black, sides of 3rd and 4th tergites sometimes reddish yellow, with rather dense grayish-white pruinosity of tessellate appearance on dorsum throughout, pruinosity thinner on venter. Hairs on dorsum dense, long and erect; syntergite 1+2 with a pair of fine median marginal and 2–3 lateral marginal setae; 3rd tergite with 2–3 pairs of strong median discal, 1–2 lateral discal, 2–4 median marginal and 2–3 lateral marginal setae, median discal setae rather irregularly set; 4th tergite with 2–3 pairs of strong median discal and a row of marginal setae, discal setae rather irregularly set; 5th tergite with an irregularly-set row of strong discal setae and a row of weaker marginal setae; 2nd to 4th sternite exposed, with dense, long hairs.

Terminalia: 6th tergite with thin grayish pruinosity, a row of rather strong marginal setae, free from syntergosternite 7+8 and about 1/3 as long as the latter; syntergosternite 7+8 and epandrium shining black; cerci in dorsal view rather narrow, narrowed from base to apical 1/2, then nearly parallel-sided or weakly narrowed to apex, with rather weak ridges on both side from basal 1/2 to 1/3, in lateral view nearly straight; surstylus nearly straight, narrowed to blunt apex, with a rather weak ridge on dorsal margin near middle and 3–4 spines on apex.

Female. Unknown.
