Notes:— Begonia costello was published in a seed list in the journal of the American Begonian Society (Anon. 1975) as nomen only. Begonia costello was published without description, and hence is an invalid name. Golding (1989) noted that B. costello actually refers to B. acetosa Vell. , and is similar to B. itaguassuensis (see notes under B. cantareira above); however here it is considered Begonia costello is Begonia itaguassuensis Brade.
