Gnathosoma— Curved obliquely downward, 19 (19–20); dorsal pedipalp genual setae (d) 5 (5–6), pedipalp coxal setae (ep) 3 (2–3), cheliceral stylets 16 (15–18). Prodorsal shield— Frontal lobe present, 55 (54–56), 53 (51–54) wide, median line incomplete, present on anterior shield; admedian lines complete, immerging at base; submedian complete. Scapular tubercles placed on rear shield margin, 28 (28–29) apart, scapular setae (sc) 5 (4–5), directed backward and divergently. Coxae— Sternal line present, coxal area sculptured with lines; anterolateral setae on coxisternum І (1b) 9 (9–10), 13 (13–14) apart; proximal setae on coxisternum І (1a) 15 (13–16), 8 (8–9) apart; proximal setae on coxisternum І (2a) 30 (28–33), 23 (22–24) apart. Coxigenital annuli 4. Legs— Segments normal. Legs І 29 (27–32), femur 10 (10–11), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 15 (12–17); genu 4 (3–4), antaxial genual setae (l'') 6 (5–7); tibia 6 (6–7); tarsus 7 (6–8), paraxial fastigial tarsal setae (ft') 5 (5–6), antaxial fastigial tarsal setae (ft'') 20 (18–23), paraxial unguinal tarsal setae (u') 4 (4–5); tarsal empodium 6 (5–6), 5-rayed, tarsal solenidion 6 (5–6), knobbed. Opisthosoma— Dorsum with median and lateral ridges, dorsal annuli 27 (27–28), smooth; ventral annuli 60 (60–61), with rounded microtubercles; setae c2 17 (15–20), on ventral annulus 15th; setae d 40 (35–45), 28 (27–29) apart, on ventral annulus 24th; setae e 25 (23–28), 10 (9–11) apart, on ventral annulus 40th; setae f 33 (30–35), 15 (14–16) apart, on 6th ventral annulus from rear; setae h1 absent, setae h2 60 (51–72). Female genitalia— Coverflap with two rows of longitudinal ridges, 21 (20–23), 26 (25–27) wide, proximal setae on coxisternum ІІІ (3a) 11 (10–12), 16 (16–17) apart.

Male. Not seen.

Type material. Holotype, female, Bawangling National Nature Reserve (19°33´N, 109°53´E), Changjiang County, Hainan Province, China, 15-Sept.-2008, from Ficus variegata Bl. (Moraceae) , collected by Guoquan Wang. Paratypes, 5 females, mounted on individual slide, with the same data as holotype.

Relation to host. The mites are vagrant on the undersurfaces of the leaves, no visible damage seen.

Etymology. The specific designation is derived from the province name of the location, where the type species were collected.

Remarks. This new species is similar to Shevtchenkella phyllostachya Huang, 2001 , but they can be easily separated as follows: in S. hainanensis , coxal area with lines, female coverflap with two ranks of ridges, ventral annuli with rounded microtubercles and empodium 5-rayed; in S. phyllostachya , coxal area smooth, female coverflap with one rank of ridges, ventral annuli with elongated microtubercles and empodium 6-rayed ( Huang 2001b).
