Type material. Holotype, female, from F. benjamina Linn. (Moraceae) , Menglun Town, Mengla County (21°53´N, 101°11´E), Yunnan Province, China, 3-Dec.-2007, collected by Guoquan Wang. Paratypes, 5 females and 6 males, mounted on individual slide, with the same data as holotype.

Additional material examined. 8 females and 1 male from F. t i n c t o r i a Forst. f. var. gibbosa (Moraceae) , Menglun Town, Mengla County (21°53´N, 101°11´E), Yunnan Province, China, 3–Dec.–2007, collected by Guoquan Wang; 6 females from F. v i re n s Ait. var. sublanceolata (Miq.) Corner (Moraceae) , Jianshi Forest Park, Tian’er County (25°01´N, 107°16´E), Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, 17-Aug.-2006, collected by Guoquan Wang and Suigai Wei.

Relation to host. The mites are vagrant on the undersurfaces of the leaves, no visible damage seen.

Etymology. The specific designation is derived from the province name of the location, where the type species were collected.

Remarks. This new species is differentiated from the other three Colopodacus species ( C. begalensis Mohanasundaram, 1981 ; C. obovataus Huang & Wang, 2003 and C. virens Ou, Zhu & Wei, 2008 ) from Ficus spp., which are distributed worldwide, and Colopodacus variegatae sp. nov. by the empodium 4-rayed. The new species is similar to Colopodacus palaquius Huang, 2001 , but is separated as follows: in C. yunnanensis , empodium 4-rayed, lateral sides of prodorsal shield lines forming networks; in C. palaquius , empodium 5- rayed, lateral sides of prodorsal shield smooth ( Huang 2001a).
