Key to Mediterranean species of Liljeborgia View in CoL

Three species of Liljeborgia occur in the Mediterranean Sea: L. clytaemnestra sp. nov., L. dellavallei and L. psaltrica . They all belong to the subgenus Liljeborgia , as defined by d'Udekem d'Acoz (2010). Liljeborgia kinahani ( Spence Bate, 1862) has also been recorded from the Mediterranean Sea ( Harmelin, 1964; Munilla & San Vincente, 2005), but these records are considered as dubious in d'Udekem d'Acoz (2010). Even the validity of L. kinahani is open to doubt, as it could represent a juvenile or neotenic stage of L. pallida ( Spence Bate, 1857) and related species (see remarks under L. clytaemnestra sp. nov.). Therefore L. kinahani is not included in the key.

- Posterior border of propodus of pereiopods 3–4 with spines dramatically increasing in size towards tip; these spines are rather stout and the ultimate spine is longer than the penultimate; distal spines of lobes of telson about 0.2 times as long as telson; peduncle of uropod 1 with immensely elongated spine followed by much shorter spines in adult males (proximal spine only slightly longer than others in females and juveniles)....................................
