Diagnosis

Small slender­bodied grayish fly; body evenly and densely covered with grayish pruinosity; 2+3 dc; tegula and basicosta yellow, costal spine strong; cell r 4+5 closed at wing margin; legs reddish yellow; syntergite 1+2 excavated only at base, without median marginal seta. In dorsal view, cerci distinctly narrowed on apical 3/5, surstylus foot­like, blunt apically and slightly concave at middle; in lateral view cerci bent ventrally at apex, surstylus bluntly rounded, basiphallus slightly longer than postgonite, distiphallus with membranous apical part about 1.4 times as long as sclerotized basal part, with minute spinules at membranous basal part ventrally.

Remarks

This is the only species of Dinera with a Holarctic distribution; it occurs in northern China, Mongolia and Far East Russia in Asia, but not in Japan. It is easily distinguished from other species of this genus by its slender grayish body, reddish yellow legs, and strong costal spine.
