Description

Male. Head black in ground color, lunule, face and gena reddish brown, with grayish white pruinosity; frontal vitta dark brown; antenna black, scape and pedicel at most weakly reddish brown; palpus dark brown. Vertex about 1/8 head width; frontal vitta about 2.5 times as wide as frontoorbital plate at middle; parafacial nearly parallelsided, about 2.5 times as wide as flagellomere 1; facial carina high, weakly rounded on anterior surface, arched in lateral view; gena about 2/5 eye height; lower margin of face weakly protruding forward, slightly extending beyond base of vibrissa. Frontoorbital plate only with hairs on upper portion; parafacial bare; inner vertical seta fine hairlike, directed forward, about 2/5 eye height; ocellar seta only slightly longer, but distinctly stronger than inner vertical seta; outer vertical seta indistinct; 15–16 inclinate frontal setae, subequal in length and slightly longer than ocellar seta; vibrissa inserted above lower margin of face by about length of pedicel; occiput with 2–3 rows black hairs. Antenna falling short of lower margin of face by about 1/2 length of pedicel and flagellomere 1 combined; base of antenna nearly level with lower 1/3 of eye height; pedicel with 3–4 strong setae that are about as long as flagellomere 1; flagellomere 1 about 3.5 times as long as pedicel; total width of arista including plumosity 2–2.5 times as wide as flagellomere 1. Palpus subequal in length to antenna; prementum about 5 times as long as wide.

Thorax black in ground color, with rather thin grayish pollinosty; 5 black longitudinal vittae on presutural region of scutum, outer vitta wider than median vittae, on postsutural scutum 3 broad vittae present, of which median vitta is continuous from and formed by 3 inner vittae of presutural area. Postpronotal lobe with 5 setae; 1+2 ac, 3+4 dc, 0+2 ia, 4 sa; scutellum with 2–4 weak discal setae, basal and subapical scutellar setae subequal in length and about twice as long as scutellum, apical seta about 3/4 as long as basal seta. Wing hyaline, weakly and evenly tinged with brown; tegula and basicosta dark brown to black; calypters pale yellowish brown. Costal spine absent; relative length of costal sections 2nd, 3rd and 4th approximately as 1.5:2:1, vein M from dmcu crossvein to its bend about twice distance between the bend and wing margin. Legs black; pulvilli dull yellowish. Fore tibia with 2 p; mid tibia with 2 ad, 2–3 pd and 1 v; hind tibia with 5–8 ad, 2–3 pd and 2–3 v, apical pv indistinct.

Abdomen black in ground color; dorsum with rather thin grayish white pruinosity on anterior 2/3 of tergite 3, 1/2 of tergite 4 and 3/4 of tergite 5, median portion of tergites 3 and 4 with brownish reflection except for mid dorsal longitudinal area, without pruinosity. Abdominal tergites with dense fine long hairs; syntergite 1+2 excavated to posterior margin, with 2 median marginal and 1–2 lateral marginal setae; tergite 3 with 2–4 median marginal, 2–3 lateral marginal and 2 fine irregularly set discal setae; tergite 4 with several irregularly set discal setae and a row of marginal setae; tergite 5 with rows of discal and marginal setae; discal setae on tergites 3 and 4 arranged on median portion. Male terminalia. In dorsal view cerci strongly narrowed on apical 3/5 and pointed at apex; surstylus broad and rather quadrate in lateral view, with dense fine and short hairs, and bent inward at apex; distiphallus slender, with rather large spinules on upper 3/5 portion of membranous ventral surface, membranous apical part shorter than sclerotized basal part, with very minute spinules.

Female. Differing from male as follows: Body with pale yellowish gray pruinosity; palpus reddish brown. Frons wide, about 3/8 head width; frontal vitta wide, about twice as wide as frontoorbital plate at middle; gena about 4/7 eye height; inner vertical seta about 2/3 eye height and slightly longer than ocellar seta; outer vertical seta about 2/3 as long as inner vertical seta; 1 weak prevertical seta, about 2/3 as long as outer vertical seta; 2 proclinate orbital setae subequal in length to each other and to ocellar seta; 10–11 inclinate frontal setae; base of antenna nearly level with lower 1/4 of eye height; flagellomere 1 about 3 times as long as pedicel. 3–4 sa; mid tibia with 2 ad, 3 p and 1 v; hind tibia with 4 ad, 3 pd and 2 v; claw and pulvillus shorter than tarsomere 5. Abdomen ovate; abdominal hairs all short and recumbent, discal seta absent on intermediate tergites, tergite 5 with 2 short discal setae.

Type material

Holotype ♂, CHINA, Mt. Paoma, 2600 m, Kangding , Sichuan, 18.viii.1993, H. Shima ( IZCAS) . Paratypes CHINA. Sichuan: 1 male, 1 female, Yajiang , 2800–3100 m, 23.viii.1993, H. Shima ( BLKU) .

Etymology Special epithet is taken from the similar appearance to D. takanoi .

Remarks

This species is similar to D. takanoi , but is distinguished from it in having a black abdomen, almost entirely black antenna, pale yellowish brown calypter, and long and fine hairs on abdominal tergites. In the male terminalia this species is similar to D. meridionalis and D. orientalis in having a short membranous apical part of distiphallus.
