Record as epibiont on cnidarians: The species was originally described on hydroids from the Folden fjord is north of Bodø, Norway ( Dons 1938).
Record as epibiont on other hosts: The species was also found on bryozoans from the same locality ( Dons 1938).
Remarks: Dovgal (2002) transferred the species Podocyathus excavatus Dons, 1938 into genus Metephelota .
