Philaster guamensis ( Lobban, Raymundo & Montagnes 2011)

= Porpostoma guamensis Lobban, Raymundo & Montagnes 2011

Record as parasite on cnidarians: It was found to infect varieties of corals families: Acroporidae View in CoL , Pocilloporidae View in CoL and Faviidae View in CoL in Great Barrier Reef ( Bourne et al. 2008).

Remarks: This causes disease Brown Band (BB/BrB) ( Willis et al. 2004). The causal ciliate of BB was identified as a member of the subclass Scuticociliatia Bourne et al. (2008). The ciliate was reported as a new species Porpostoma guamensis by Lobban et al. (2011). Sweet & Bythel (2012) proposed that the proper epithet for this ciliate should be Philaster guamensis not Porpostoma guamensis .
