Genus Trouessartia Canestrini, 1899

This genus comprises nearly 100 species associated predominantly with birds from the order Passeriformes . A revision of this genus including 71 species was performed by Santana (1976) and subsequently other species have been described by various authors ( Černy 1979; Černy & Lukoschus 1975; Mironov 1983; Gaud & Atyeo 1986, 1987; Mironov & Kopij 1996, 2000; OConnor et al. 2005; Carleton & Proctor 2010; Burdejnaja & Kivganov 2011). Santana (1976) arranged some of species into five species groups, which were rather summarily defined.

Gaud & Atyeo (1968, 1987) revised and gave expanded characteristics to the appendiculata and minutipes species groups; Mironv & Kopij (2000) revised tenuipilata species groups and establish two more groups, viduae and africana.
