Diagnosis: Head distinctly narrower than thorax; vertex subrectangular, flattened with indented foveae; genae not or little expanded into small tubercular processes ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 28 – 36 ); long setae on genae. Thorax moderately arched in profile ( Fig. 68 View FIGURES 59 – 70 ). Antennae with terminal setae unequal and blunt. Forewing long, with strict trifurcation, widest in the apical half or third; apex rounded or subacute. Meracanthus large, horn-shaped; metatibia with 1+3 apical spurs.
Biology and damage: According to Burckhardt et al. (2004), at least half of the species develop in flower heads of Baccharis (Asteraceae) inducing inconspicuous galls.
Host-plants: Baccharis , Senecio and other Asteraceae ( Olivares & Burckhardt 1997) .
Distribution: Neotropic and Neartic ( Olivares & Burckhardt 1997).— Colombia: Calinda gibbosa (Tuthill) , C. osorii Olivares & Burckhardt (Olivares & Burckhardt 1997) .
