Genus Stegopleurodon Richer de Forges & Ng, 2009

Stegopleurodon Richer de Forges & Ng, 2009b: 262 [type species: Stegopleurodon planirostrum Richer de Forges & Ng, 2009 , by original designation].

Remarks. There are currently two species in this genus, S. planirostrum Richer de Forges & Ng, 2009 , from New Caledonia, and S. pteridion Lee, Richer de Forges & Ng, 2017 , from the South China Sea. As discussed by Richer de Forges & Ng (2009b), this genus is distinct from Oxypleurodon Miers, 1885 , and Sphenocarcinus A. Milne- Edwards, 1875, by having a fused, roof-like carapace plate instead of distinct smaller plates on each region of the carapace.
