Taxonomy. Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Berg (1949: 566); listed by Coad (1981: 11; 2015: 327) as possible species.—Afghanistan materials: None.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Amu Darya.—General distribution: Europe; widely introduced elsewhere.—Habitat: This species usually lives in large lowland rivers and nutrient-rich lakes. Migrates to tributaries for spawning in moderate current on gravel or submerged vegetation. Freshwater.

Economic importance. Commercially important.

Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: LC ( Freyhof & Kottelat 2008d).—Threats: No major threats known.—Low sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.— Decline status: Unknown.—Low priority for conservation action.

Remarks. This species reported from lover Amu Darya. Therefore, presence of the species should be clarifying by field sample.
