Taxonomy. Original description: Glyptothorax jalalensis Balon & Hensel, 1970: 160 , fig. 1 [Kabul River tributary, near Jalal-Abad (Jalalabad), Afghanistan; holotype:SNMB 2176].— Afghanistan synonyms: None.—Revisions: None.—Illustration: Balon & Hensel (1970: fig. 1).

Status in Afghanistan. Recorded from Afghanistan in original description by Balon & Hensel (1970: 160); confirmed by Coad (1981: 16; 2014: 284; 2015: 229).—Afghanistan materials: None.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Kabul River.—General distribution: Kabal River basin, Indus River drainage, Afghanistan and Pakistan.—Habitat: This species inhabits swift-flowing, larger rivers with a substrate of sand and gravel or rocks. Freshwater.

Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance.
