Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, 3A‒C, 5A, 6A

Podabrus novemexcavatus Wittmer, 1951: 97 , fig. 3. (Type locality: China, Fujian. Type depository: holotype male, ZFMK) Podabrus novemexcavatus ab. testaceicollis Wittmer, 1951: 97. Synonymized by Kazantsev, 2007: 51. Micropodabrus novemexcavatus: Wittmer, 1988: 359 .

Fissocantharis novemexcavatus: Yang et al., 2009: 49 .

Type material examined. Holotype male ( ZFMK): “Kuatun (2300m) 27.40 n. Br. \ 117.40 ö. L. J. Klapperich \ 11.4.1936 (Fukien)” [red printed label], “ Podabrus \ novemexcavatus \ Wittm.” [white hand-written label], “ Holotypus \ Podabrus novemexca- \ vatus n. sp. \ Wittmer 1949” [red hand-written label].

Additional material examined. CHINA, Fujian: 1 male ( IZAS): Chong’an, Xingcun, Sangang, 710m, 17.V.1960, leg. Y.R. Zhang; 1 male, 3 females ( IZAS): Jianyang, Huangkeng, Aotou, 950m, 23.IV.1960, leg. Y.R. Zhang; 1 female ( IZAS): same locality and collector, 26.IV.1960; 1 female ( IZAS): same locality and date, leg. Yong Zuo; 1 female ( IZAS): same locality, 30.IV.1960, leg. Y. Zuo; 1 male, 1female ( IZAS): Jianyang, Huangkeng, Guilin, 270‒590m, 11.IV.1960, leg. Y. Zuo.

Supplementary description. Male. Aedeagus ( Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 A‒C): ventral process of each paramere abruptly narrowed apically and slightly hooked at apex in ventral view; conjoint dorsal plate of parameres about half length of ventral processes, parallel-sided at basal one-fourth part then moderately obliquely narrowed apically, nearly straight at apical margin.

Female. Abdominal sternite VIII ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 A) largely and subtriangularly emarginated on both sides of posterior margin, middle portion between lateral emarginations rounded at apex and slightly shorter than lateroapical angles, which are rounded at apices. Internal organ of reproductive system ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 A): vagina stout and abruptly narrowed and extended into a long duct above median oviduct; diverticulum and spermathecal duct arising from the end of the long duct of vagina; diverticulum moderately long, thin and spiral; spermathecal duct distinctly thicker and shorter than diverticulum; spermatheca composed of a spiral tube which is nearly as long as diverticulum, provided with a moderately long and thin accessory gland which is slightly longer than the spiral tube of spermatheca; median oviduct situated in middle of vagina.

Distribution. China (Fujian).

Remarks. In the original publication ( Wittmer 1951), this species was illustrated with the antenna of male ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A), which is the most diagnostic character. In our recent studies ( Yang et al. 2014, 2015), the genitalia of both sexes and abdominal sternite VIII of female are also found to be useful characters in determination of the species of Fissocantharis . Thus, we make some supplementary descriptions and illustrations of these characters for this species herein.
