Comments. The new records of S. janae considerably extend the distribution of the species to new regions of Brazil ( Fig. 49 View FIGURE 49 ). The nymphs were collected in both small and large streams, mostly under submerged stones and in some cases in leaf litter.

Some variations in the general color pattern were observed in populations collected at the Serra do Tepequém (Roraima state). In general, specimens collected in this region have lighter coloration than those collected in other areas of Brazil.

Simothraulopsis janae has a color pattern very similar to that of S. demerara and S. dominguezi , sp.nov., however, it is clearly distinguished from these and others species of the genus by the conspicuous morphology of the male genitalia—the penis lobes are very slender ( Figs 24 View FIGURE 24 D, 25D). Additionally, the penis lobes possess a thin, sclerotized dorsal plate, a feature unique to this species. Nymphs of these three species can be separated from each other by differences on general coloration of the body ( Figs 6 View FIGURE 6 , 26 View FIGURE 26 , 36 View FIGURE 36 ) and by type and arrangements of setae on the legs ( Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 , 28 View FIGURE 28 , 38 View FIGURE 38 ).
