Sciuro-hypnum latifolium (Kindb.) Ignatov & Huttunen View in CoL
It is an alpine species, growing on high altitudes between 1700 and 2600 m ( Orgaz et al. 2011). It is rare in the Balkan area, known from Bulgaria, Romania and Slovenia ( Sabovljević et al. 2008, Orgaz et al. 2011). S. latifolium is similar to Brachythecium rivulare in the leaf shape, laminal cell length and inflated alar cells ( Orgaz et al. 2011). The only Serbian report from Belgrade area ( Grdović 2005 sub Brachythecium latifolium Kindb. ) does not correspond to this species and should be considered erroneous taking in mind also its northern and alpine distribution, as well as its ecology.
