Additional material examined. Iran: 1 ♂, 1 ♀, 70 km S v. Teheran, 1300 m, 5.v.1965 (Kasy & Vartian) (gen. slide 313/ 19♂, 314/ 19♀, O. Bidzilya) ( NHMW) .

Diagnosis. The species can be separated from other Ancylosis spp. with light brown forewing and distinct white costal streak ( A. leucocephala , A. muliebris , A. deserticola ) by the following characters: wingspan is larger (22–24 mm); presence of two brown touches on 1/2 and 3/4 near dorsal margin; dark brown irroration along vein under white costal strip and near the wing apex; costal margin mottled with brown from base to 1/4; white costal streak broad, about 1/3 width of the wing base, with short invagination on 3/4 towards dorsum; white irroration from the base to about 1/3 of dorsal margin. Ancylosis leucocephala and A. muliebris are smaller (13–18 mm), with white rather than light brown head, without dark brown markings on dorsal portion of the wing, without brown irroration on the base of costal margin and without white irroration on the base of dorsal margin. Ancylosis muliebris differs additionally in presence of weak light transverse postmedial line. Ancylosis deserticola is smaller and has uniformly light brown dorsal portion of the forewing without dark brown markings.

The male genitalia are well recognizable by a short distal sclerite of gnathos (about 1/6 length of uncus), a welldeveloped clasper, valva distinctly narrowed at its base as well as comparatively thick aedeagus weakly bent after half length ( Figs 38, 39 View FIGURES 34–41 ). Ancylosis sabulosella ( Staudinger, 1879) has somewhat similar broad clasper, but well differs in other characters in the male genitalia.

Very long ductus bursae in combination with small rounded corpus bursae with star-shaped signae forming a circle-shaped cluster are diagnostic for the female genitalia of A. amseli ( Figs 42, 43 View FIGURES 42, 43 ). Ancylosis sareptalla ( Herrich-Schäffer, 1861) , A. harmoniella ( Ragonot, 1887) , A. karachiella ( Amsel, 1968) , A. pakistanella ( Amsel, 1968) , A. ochricostella Ragonot, 1887 and others have also very long ductus bursae, but all these species have signae in corpus bursae with rounded rather than star-shaped basements.

Remarks. Heterographis costalbella was described from three males and eleven females collected in Teheran (including the holotype) and Shiraz ( Iran). Ancylosis syrtella ( Ragonot, 1887) was described from a single female collected in Gabès ( Tunisia). The genitalia of the holotype of A. syrtella were illustrated by Roesler (1973: pl. 134, fig. 177). We examined male and female paratypes of A. costalbella ( Figs 34, 35 View FIGURES 34–41 ) and two additional specimens of both sexes from Iran, which were identified by Roesler as A. syrtella ( Figs 36, 37 View FIGURES 34–41 ). All these specimens are conspecific and the female genitalia clearly differ from the genitalia in the holotype of A. syrtella . Hence, A. costalbella is here taken out from synonymy with A. syrtella and re-instated as a separate species. However, Heterographis costalbella Amsel, 1954 is preoccupied by Heterographis costalbella Mabille, 1906 and should be considered as its primary homonym ( Nuss et al. 2003 –2020). We therefore propose the replacement name for junior homonym Heterographis costalbella Amsel, 1954 : Ancylosis amseli Yepishin, 2020 nom. nov. ( ICZN 1999: articles 53.3, 57.3). We dedicate the replacement name in honor of Hans Georg Amsel, who described this species and made considerable contribution in study of Palaearctic Ancylosis .

The male genitalia of A. amseli are rather conspicuous (see above under diagnosis). They well differ from drawing of A. syrtella in Roesler (1973 : pl. 70, fig. 177). However, it is unclear if the specimen from Indersky which genitalia were considered by Roesler as A. syrtella really belongs to this species. Both specimens from Iran illustrated by Roesler as A. syrtella ( Roesler 1973: pl. 21, Fig. 177) are in fact A. amseli .

The female genitalia of A. amseli are described here for the first time.

Female genitalia of A. amseli ( Figs 42, 43 View FIGURES 42, 43 ). Papillae anales subovate, strongly edged anteriorly, densely covered with long hairs; both apophyses straight, about 1.5× as long as the length of segment VIII; segment VIII as broad as long, tergum VIII with broad V-shaped posteromedial emargination extending anteriorly to about 2/3 length, anterior margin straight, band-shaped, sternum VIII weakly sclerotized except lateral areas nearly connected posteromedially; ductus bursae very long, posterior 1/4 narrow, then gradually broadened towards corpus bursae, colliculum short, weakly sclerotized, antrum cup-shaped, distinctly broader than ductus bursae in its posterior portion, ductus seminalis slender, arises from the end of ductus bursae near the base of antrum; corpus bursae small, rounded, 10–18 thorn-shaped with rounded basements signae randomly spread over the anterior 1/4 of ductus bursae, large number of signae with five–six pointed star-shaped basements concentrated in a circle that occupies from 1/2 to 2/3 of corpus bursae.

Distribution. Iran ( Amsel 1954 (as A. costalbella ); Roesler 1973 (as A. syrtella )).
