Diagnosis. This species is similar to P. aeneus ( Hagen 1861) and P. mexicanus ( Banks 1900) sharing characters with both species. The tibial spur formula is 2,4,3, and the general color pattern and sizes are similar. Corematic structures are absent from proximal abdominal segments of P. gomezi and P. mexicanus , but present in P. aeneus . It is also distinguished from both species by the number of pleural setae of segment IX. Other important differences are the shorter preanal appendages, the long and bifurcate basodorsal process of tergum X, the rounded apical profile of segment X in lateral view, and the subcylindrical harpagones, each with a basomesal protuberance and many peg-like setae.

Adult. Length of each male forewing 12.9 mm. Head black except for an orange diamond dorsomesally. Maxillary palps pale, covered with black setae. Antennae twice as long as forewings, black. Prothorax orange; pterothorax black. Legs dark brown; tibial spur formula 2,4,3. Forewings with venation typical for the genus, each with apical 1/3 folded obliquely toward midline, black.

Male. Preterminalic abdominal terga each with anteromesal notch. Corematic structures absent. Terga III–V without membranous lobes or sclerotized processes. Sternum VII without anteromesal process. Sternum VIII similar to anterior sterna, sternum IX not elongate. Tergum IX with mesal ridge extending 2/3 length of segment; posterior margin smoothly rounded ( Fig. 4D View FIGURE 4 ); dorsal pleural setae 7, ventral pleural setae 6 ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 ); sternum IX with paired mesolateral ridges ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ). Preanal appendages shorter than segment X, of uniform diameter throughout length to blunt apices, setae long, but no longer than appendages ( Figs. 4A, 4D View FIGURE 4 ). Tergum X sagittate basally; mesal basodorsal process bifurcated, long almost reaching apices of preanal appendages; apex of tergum X, in lateral view obtuse, in dorsal view with deep U-shaped notch ( Fig. 4D View FIGURE 4 ). Inferior appendages each twosegmented: Basal segment thickest subapically in lateral view; harpago slightly tapered, with basomesal protuberance, tuberculate mesally and apically and with many short peg–like setae subapicoventrally ( Fig. 4B, 4C View FIGURE 4 ). Phallus long, curved in lateral view, phallotremal sclerites of average size.
