Diagnosis. Recognized and distinguished from Palaearctic congeners and Nipponocalisius species by a set of the following characters: clypeus apically rounded without dilated genae, antennal segments I–III of equal length, carinae of pronotum, lateral margins of scutellum and median ridge granulate without distinct tubercles, lateral margins of deltg II–VII with flat nodules and the specific colour pattern of scutellum.

Description. Macropterous male. Colour stramineous with brown markings on deltg II–VII, color pattern of scutellum as in Figs. 6–7 View FIGURES 1–10 .

Head. Slightly longer than wide (22:19), clypeus granulate and rounded anteriorly; antennae 0.89 times as long as width of head, length of antennal segments I:II:III:IV = 4:4:4:7; vertex with a double row of round tubercles.

Pronotum. About 1.5 times as wide as long (34:19); lateral margins sinuate, beset with 4 larger tubercles on anterior lobe and a few smaller ones on posterior lobe; disk with two pairs of carinae without tubercles.

Scutellum. Basal triangular elevation with three pairs of tubercles, four of them overlapping pronotum; median carina and lateral margins granulate, surface of disk with flat punctures.

Abdomen. Lateral margins of deltg II–VII with a double row of three flat, round nodules, posterior ones stramineous, anterior ones dark brown; spiracles II–VI ventral, VII–VIII lateral.

Genitalia. Paramere blade as in Fig. 29 View FIGURES 26–29 .

Female. As male but of larger size and different tergite VIII.

Measurements. ♂♂ (n = 5): body length 2.40–2.50 mm, width of abdomen 1.00– 1.15 mm; ♀♀ (n = 5): body length 2.60–2.85 mm, width of abdomen 1.10–1.25 mm.

Etymology. The specific epithet is dedicated to our friend Yoshinori Shono, recognizing his valuable advice and activities concerning this paper.

Ecology. A male specimen was collected on Osmanthus insularis Koidz. ( Oleaceae ) (pers. comm. J. Souma) ( Fig. 33O View FIGURE 33 ).

Distribution. Recorded from Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands in the Ryukyu Archipelago, supposed to be endemic ( Fig. 34 View FIGURE 34 ).

Remarks. It is remarkable two sympatric species of Calisiinae occur on such rather small islands as Ishigaki and Iriomote of the Yaeyama group, about 400 km southwest of the Okinawa Island. A female of Calisius acutus Matsuda & Usinger, 1957 , a species described from the Caroline Islands, has been reported from Iriomote by Miyamoto & Hidaka (1963). This record is likely a misidentification, pertaining either to this new species or Nipponocalisius dimorphus sp. nov., but in lack of the voucher specimens of Miyamoto & Hidaka (1963) this question cannot be settled at the present. The unavailable name Aradosyrtis shonoi mentioned by Heiss (2023) pertains to this new species.
