Diagnosis. The angulation of the clypeogenal junction (straight on males, obtuse female)

( Fig. 1A–B View Fig ) and pair of tubercles on the female sixth abdominal sternite ( Fig. 1E View Fig ) place this species in the Dichotomius quadraticeps species-group (Nunes and Vaz-de-Mello, unpublished data). Dichotomius aielloae is separated from other species in this group by the male cephalic carina, which bears a central blade-like horn (ventral view) ( Fig. 1D View Fig ).

This species can be separated from other Panamanian Dichotomius species by modifying couplet 6 of Howden and Young’ s (1981) key:
